Overview

[11C](+)-3-MPB (also known as (+)N-[11C]methyl-3-piperidyl benzilate) is a carbon-11 labeled radiopharmaceutical developed as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent. It acts as a non-selective antagonist of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) in the brain. Developed by researchers at the Research Institute for Brain and Blood Vessels Akita and Hamamatsu Photonics, [11C](+)-3-MPB is used in preclinical and clinical research to evaluate central muscarinic receptor density, occupancy by therapeutic agents (such as scopolamine, oxybutynin, and solifenacin), and alterations in cholinergic system function associated with aging, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), and other neurological or psychiatric disorders.
